Still at it...

Well I'm happy to report that I am still at it. not doing as much of the whole30 as I used to and I actually want to get back into it a bit more. I am however, watching my calories and it seems to be working. I weigh in daily but I won't record and mark my changes until the 11th. That will be two months.

All good though. Maybe I'll even take some pictures.

It's hot, gotta go get some water!

7 days later....

So I technically finished the Whole30 a week ago, and I still feel good. I'm keeping my limit of grains and dairy to a minimum and I have very limited sugar and alcohol. Like one drink a week!

I feel good, but I have plateaued. I don't think it's technically an official Plateau because those are defined when you have not lost or gained for a period longer than a month, but a week seems about right to me. I am the same weight that I was a week ago. Well one lb less but I think that was just water weight.

Anyways, I have read a bunch about whole 30 and plateaus and they are actually quite common, especially after the 30 days because we start to sneak things back in. One thing that I definitely started sneaking was trail mix...by the handful. Love the stuff.

So I'm taking a break from trail mix and I'm counting again. I'm back on myfitnesspal and it's been good. I have cut back on my food a bit and hopefully by next week I will see the scale move a bit more.

And more water... how come it's such a struggle to get in a little bit of water each day. I love drinking it, I'm just too lazy to get up and pour it I guess.

I am concerned about S. He's gaining soo much weight and it's all in his belly. He doesn't seem to care. Well he does because he complains about it but then he goes right back to his beer etc.

I will try to help him. It's hard to be nagged at though.

Anyways... onward and upward.

Day 30 W30

Ha!  I didn't quit. Well I quit a little but I didn't whole-hearted quit!

I learned a lot on this journey. I learned that started a new diet that weans you off of your favorite food will hurt... a lot. Like it makes you go blind and you have the poops for days!

I also learned that carbs make me hungry.. ALL THE TIME!!!

I have started in the last few days to add back a few of the carbs that I cut out. And guess what? The weight is starting to reappear on the scale.

I was not the type to stay off the scale. I'm a daily weigh-er... it's just the way I am. I have started to add back sugar and that is the one that seems to make me hungrier during  the day.

SO I have decided I'm going to try to eat as closely to Whole30 as I can and then have one day (on the weekend) that I can splurge.  Have a drink, have a bun... whatever.

In total I lost about 8 lbs this month. Not bad, but I think I could have done a little better. Not sure about my measurements as I haven't taken them yet. I'll do that later and share the results.

I do like the way my skin feels and how much better I sleep. No heartburn and S says I even stopped snoring!!  I'm going for some blood work soon so it will be nice to see if that changed as well.

I'm going to go back to no sugar for the week and see if that starts moving the scale again. I also need to drink more water... drinking water just doesn't seem to be a habit for me

Starting  Ending
Weight 215 207.5 7.5
Bust 45.75 44 1.75
Waist  42.25 41 1.25
Hips 47.5 46.75 0.75
Thighs 27 26.5 0.5
4.25

Not too shabby and definitely motivation to keep going.

Filling up my water bottle right now!

W30 Day 14

Wow - TWO WEEKS!  I have to admit I have done a bit of cheating so technically I should have started over but seriously... that ain't happening.

Pros of the program

1. I have lost many of my cravings for things such as carbs, donuts, sugary snacks etc.

2. I have had ZERO heartburn which was not on a daily basis but it when it appeared it appeared.

3. I love that I'm eating fruit again and many veggies that I haven't had in a long time.

Cons of the program

1. It's boring

2. I'm tired - not sure if this is because it's boring or because I'm lacking some vitamins.

Things I miss : dairy.. just a bit. I don't need to hook myself up to a cow or anything but I miss having a bit of cheese on my salad or a yogurt when I'm hungry.

Alcohol.  don't miss it a ton, but enough.

ok - so onto this week. I think we have a bit of Aunt Flo this weekend so we will see what she brings with her.

Can't recap last 4 days of food so we will start with goals for today and see how I make out with them tomorrow.

MORE WATER!!!! seriously.... I've been bad.

Move movement... need to get back up to my 10000 steps. Hey that reminds me, where is my fitbit!! Gotta go find it.

W30 Day 8

Wow - it seems like I've been on this diet for a lot longer than 8 days. Maybe it's cause I'm getting bored already as there are not tons of options for food. Oh well, I plug along.  I think Day 10 I'm going to peek at the scale and see how much I've lost. Better be 5 lbs!!!

Today's food:

Breakfast - 2 hard boiled eggs, avacado,  banana , black coffee
Lunch  - Left over burger in lettuce, avacado, potatoes, apple with almond butter
Dinner - Salad with Chicken, balsamic dressing

Lots of avacados in there.

Less tired today. No headache. But I still have loose stools in the mornings.... and sometimes in the afternoon too. Nothing to panic about though.

Onto Day 9!

W30 Day 7 (4-6 too)

Well it's been awhile since I last posted and YES, i'm still following the W30 program. I'm currently on Day 7 so that means I made it one week!!!

Can't go back and enter all the food I've been eating but it entails a lot of eggs, veggies and meats! I've been a good girl.

I have snuck one or two bites of badness but seriously... I honestly mean 1 or 2 bits in 7 DAYs!!!

It's been hard. The thing I think I miss most is Dairy.. a little cup of yogurt in the morning was my savior. Now I'm getting sick of eggs.... really sick of eggs.

One weird thing that happened to me last week and it still is happening this week only not as badly is the double vision. I have had bouts of double vision in the day. One was bad on friday night when I had to drive R back from Burnaby and I could barely see.

I came home and worried about it all night and then on saturday I started googling and I'm pretty sure it's related to the diet. I think it's when my blood sugar drops that I have the problem. So for me right now it's very important to always carry a snack (sugary fruit) or something in case of emergency.

Other than that, no real problems.  I have been dead tired the last few days but according to the book that is normal too. Can't wait for this to be over... really I cant.

W30 Day 3

Today had it's ups and downs. All in all from W30 I feel pretty good. No major headaches or tummy troubles that everyone else has been speaking of. I'm sure it's still coming but for now, I'm good.

Here's my food for the day and I'll get to the doctor appointment after that...

Breakfast - 2 hard boiled eggs, berry salad, 1/2 cup black coffee
Lunch - Spinach salad with thai chili tuna salad, egg and a banana
Dinner - Chicken fajita without the fajita!?! lol  Good though... chicken, peppers, onions and some avacado :)
Snack - apple with almond butter
Water - good amount, might need a bit more

Walking - 8641 without a walk at lunch.

Ok - so that was the good news. The bad news?!  My appointment at doctor was poo. Although it looked like my weight was down a bit from last time, my blood pressure and pulse remains to be weak and a problem. Dr. H spent over 40 minutes trying to get a good reading and never managed to. He wants me to wear a 24 hour monitor that will get a better pulse reading from me. Wonder if that is even possible. I'm sure hoping that this W30 will put me on the right track to getting a better BP reading and actually a BP reading at all!!!

I read a bit about it when I got home and it appears that weak or faint pulse means that I could have hardening of the arteries... WHAT?! ! I'm only 43!!! You've got to be kidding me.  need to fix this stat!

I'm not a smoker, I have been overweight for most of my life and clearly my sedentary life has done some damage to my body. Let's hope this can be turned around.

Anyways.. looking to things more positively.  Went to be early last night and got a good sleep. Feel good this morning.

Onto day 4.!

W30 Day 2

Day 2 was not too bad all things said.  Got up in the morning feeling about the same that I did prior to starting the W30. Had a few sips of black coffee to get me going but not the usual long sips of glorious white/sugary coffee that I'm used to. Not sure I'll ever get used to the black coffee thing..

Breakfast
2 eggs with spinach
1 banana with blackberries

Lunch
Roasted chicken breast
1/2 avacado (guacamole style)!
grapes
Cucumbers

snack
Banana chips
Almonds

Dinner
This was my struggle today as we had to go out for R's birthday. I ended up ordering a salad with no dressing and a sad little chicken breast. The salad had some pine nuts and sundried tomato on it. Not bad. Didn't love it but it got me through. I used about a 1/2 tbsp of the dressing which was balsamic vinegrette. (it may have had some sugar in it)

Yesterday was bad for stepping only 4696 steps!!! Boo

Will need to get out twice today with the doggie to make up the deficit.

Also big appointment with doctor.... will report back on how mad he is at me tomorrow morning when I report day 3!

Felt ok today. No headaches etc. Regular bathroom habits... nothing exciting to report.

W30 Day 1 Recap

I started writing yesterday and was going to report at the start of the day my plan for the day, but I think instead of doing that I will enter my recap the following day. That way I can not only report my food but my feelings and other weird stuff that might be going on with me.

So Day 1 -
Breakfast - 3 eggs, spinach omelet, banana and blackberries, cup of tea
Lunch - Hamburger patty, 1/2 avocado, almonds
Dinner - left over salmon, fried baby potatoes, roasted beets, brussel sprouts and carrots
Snack - grapes, almonds, dried mangoes
Lime and raspberry infused water all day.

Found myself DEAD tired after lunch. At 1:30 I had to make a cup of coffee and drink about 1/2 of it.  Much better.

At 5, I had a wicked headache over my left eye and my allergies flared up. I ended up taking an advil and an antihistamine because I had to drive R to practice and I wouldn't have been able to see otherwise.

All in all not a bad day. Went to bed around same time 10:45pm, up this morning at 6;20.

6607 steps today.. not great.

Onto Day 2.

Whole30 journey

I considered starting a whole new blog to dictate the details of my WHOLE30 diet  journey. I have to stop referring to it as a diet and realize that this is a journey to find a better me and a healthier me.

A few years back, during my physical my doctor told me my health was deteriorating. My blood pressure was way too high and I was clearly in the obese category. How did I solve this problem? Well, I didn't, I just avoided it.

I have an appointment on wednesday to see my doctor again and he's going to be mad again, but this time, I can say that I have a new plan and I hope to see results. I want to return in 6 weeks and see if there is improvement in my blood pressure etc.  We'll see.

So here we go for Day 1!

Planned my meals so far for today

Breakfast - tea (black)
Spinach omelet
Banana and blackberries

Lunch - sparkling water
Hamburger patty
Avacado on top
Almonds

Snack - dried mangoes

Dinner -
salmon
Salad
Roasted Yams and onions

I'm sure today will be ok but it's the rest of the week that I fear a bit. I'll check in tomorrow.
